Arthur Brooks will be the distinguished speaker at Ave Maria University's 2018 Scholarship Dinner.

Dr. Arthur Brooks is a bestselling author and social scientist, and since 2009, the president of the American Enterprise Institute, Washington’s premier public policy think tank. Dr. Brooks works with America’s leading scholars, policymakers, and elected officials in defense of human dignity, free enterprise and the expansion of human potential, all in pursuit of a freer and safer world.


Dr. Brooks’ professional journey has been both unconventional and supremely successful.  At 19, he left college to play the French horn professionally with the City Orchestra of Barcelona. He later returned to the U.S., completed his undergraduate degree and went on to earn an M.A. in economics from Florida Atlantic University, and a Ph.D.  and  M.Phil. in policy analysis at Syracuse University. He spent 10 years as a professor at his alma mater where he taught economic and social entrepreneurship.


In addition to authoring 11 books and contributing regularly as a New York Times opinion writer and radio and television commentator, Dr. Brooks is an active Catholic layman and member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Bethesda, MD.  A Seattle native, he has been married for 23 years to his wife, Ester, and father to their three children.  He received an honorary doctorate from Ave Maria University in 2016 and has served as member of the University’s Board of Trustees since 2012.
